Frequently Asked Questions
Brazen Therapy offers a range of groups for teens, adults, parents, and caregivers in Phoenix, Arizona. Some are therapy groups led by licensed clinicians, such as narrative process groups and parent support groups. Others are community-based peer support groups, such as our ceramic group for LGBTQ+ adults. Each group has its own focus, schedule, and format, so you can choose the one that fits where you are right now.
A therapy group is a form of mental health treatment led by a licensed or supervised clinician, and it may be eligible for insurance coverage. A peer support group is a community space built around shared experience and connection, and it is not intended to replace therapy. Each group flyer/description will tell you which type it is.
No. Many of our groups are open to people who are not in individual therapy with us.
You do not need to be in individual therapy to join most groups. Groups can be a great complement to individual therapy, and they can also be a gentle first step if you are curious about getting support.
Our groups serve different communities, including teens, adults, LGBTQ+ adults, and parents and caregivers. Each group page lists who it is designed for, including any age requirements.
Sessions are structured and welcoming. Depending on the group, you might learn new skills, explore your story with others, take part in a creative activity, or share and listen in a supportive circle. You are always invited to participate at a comfort level that feels right for you, and you never have to share more than you want to.
No. Many people start by listening, and that is completely okay. Sharing tends to feel easier as trust builds over the weeks.
Our facilitators ask every member to respect each other’s privacy and keep what is shared in the group within the group. Facilitators are bound by professional confidentiality standards, with the legal exceptions that apply in any therapy setting. Because group members are not bound by the same legal duties as clinicians, we encourage everyone to share only what feels comfortable.
Both formats are available. Some groups meet in person at our Phoenix office at 340 E Palm Ln, Ste 240, and others meet virtually over a secure video platform. The format is listed on each group page.
Costs vary by group. Many of our therapy groups accept insurance, including Aetna, BCBS, Cigna, and UHC for some groups, and others offer a self-pay rate per session. Our community peer support groups use a sliding-scale suggested donation so more people can take part. Please see the individual group page for the current rate, or contact us and we will gladly walk you through your options.
Most groups begin with a brief, free consultation so we can make sure the group is a good fit for you and answer your questions. You can schedule one by calling 602-918-3664 or by scheduling a consultation booking through the facilitator.
Some groups begin once enough members have signed up. If you are interested in a group that has not started yet, reach out and we will add you to the interest list and let you know as soon as a start date is set.
